In the past two months both the Wednesday Cycling Group and the Ten Pin Bowling League Group have participated in, or held, charity events to raise funds for different causes.
Cycling for The BHF
For the second year, members of the Wednesday Cycling group, under its leader Jean Stamford, entered the British Heart Foundation 25 mile Peterborough Bike Ride under the name of ‘The U3A Pacemakers’. The 2016 event was held on Sunday 26 June and this year, a total of over £600 was passed to the charity.
Ten Pin Bowling for Cancer Research
On 27th July our Ten Pin Bowling groups, supported by a few guests from Bourne U3A, spent a morning bowling for Cancer Research. The event, organised by Steven Powell, was 2 games of 10 frames each and 43 people took part. The event managed to raise £445, which was passed to Hilary Lewis, who has a current affinity with the Cancer Research charity, and she arranged the donation to be made.
I am sure all of the U3A members would like to congratulate these 2 groups on their stirling efforts in raising much needed cash for those 2 causes
