French Conversation

This group is a continuation of the very popular class that Gigi Stephens ran for very many years. When Gigi's health problems meant that she could not continue, for the time being, in the active role she had always played, members of the class decided to carry on in true U3A spirit and share knowledge to help one another to build on existing language skills.

French for Improvers is a very lively class with slightly mixed abilities. The emphasis is on communication, rather than on grammatically perfect French. Each week, a couple of members have the task of organising an activity in French, whether it is a report on something they have done, a news item, or a language game or quiz: the choice is theirs. We also spend some time each week reading a French book together, which helps us extend our vocabulary and understanding of written French.

In order to allow a conversation to develop and because of the size of the venue, we have to limit the number of members, but we are happy to add names to our waiting list at times when the class is full.

The group runs each Monday from 2:00 to 4:00.
