Electronics (Basics)

The Group runs on a fortnightly basis on a Wednesday, however when the evenings draw in this may become a weekly meeting.

The aim of the group is to give a basic understanding of some Electronic Processes using a very practical approach

The sessions include-

  • Basic ideas about electricity, for example, Voltage, Current, Resistance and Charge among others.
  • Basic Components and how they operate in simple circuits.
  • How to read simple circuit diagrams and recognise component symbols.
  • How to build circuits on solderless boards and how to test them.
  • Building circuits which respond to changes in their environment to produce an output.
  • Comparing the values of Batteries and Power supplies.
  • Use stripboard to make permanent circuits.
  • Soldering practice.

More topics can be added if required, such as using some simple Integrated Circuits (Chips) for a variety of simple projects.

Essentially this is the kind of thing that is done in Secondary Schools at about Year 9; age about 13/14 so no one should feel intimidated.

Please note that there is limited space and I would like to start with about 6 or 8 in the class.
