Reading - Werrington Crime Readers

We are a friendly group who enjoy our lively discussions about crime fiction. These have recently included:

  • The importance of a sense of place
  • The treatment of women in Scandinavian thrillers - is the violence gratuitous misogyny or essential to the plot?
  • Gastro porn! The role of food in crime thrillers
  • What makes us keep reading? When is it OK to give up?
  • The quality of translators
  • Which books transfer well to the small / large screen?

Group numbers are limited due to space and the numbers of copies available, and the group is currently full. However, we are exploring the possibility of setting up another group at Werrington Library, perhaps on another Monday afternoon, so if you are interested, please contact me. We are brilliantly supported by all the librarians, especially Alyson Hansford, and we appreciate how lucky we are to have such a good place to meet.

This year's books have included:

  • Blind Fury - Lynda La Plante
  • Mercy - Jussi Adler-Olsen
  • Before the Poison - Peter Robinson
  • Bleed For Me - Peter Rowbotham
  • Before I Go to Sleep - S.J. Watson
  • The Fifth Witness - Michael Connelly
  • Faceless Killers - Henning Mankel
