The new Theatre Group are aiming to have around 12 trips per year to various theatres, visiting London, Milton Keynes, Nottingham etc. for the more popular musical shows and plays, as well as opera and ballet. 

Will all members please note the following:

  • In order to reserve tickets, you will need to TELEPHONE Margaret Gaunt on 01733 235638 to check availability. You should speak to Margaret in person – please DO NOT leave a message. After speaking to Margaret, cheques, made payable to Peterborough U3A, should be sent to Margaret Gaunt at 25 Sunningdale, Orton Waterville, Peterborough PE2 5UB to arrive within 7 days to secure your booking. Please write the name of the show on the back of your cheque.
  • When a new show is available for booking, this page will be updated. The update will go live on Tuesday afternoons at about 4.00pm.
     
  • The ticket price covers both the theatre ticket cost and the coach cost for return travel  where appropriate.
  • Standby List - if a show is sold out, it is always worth putting your name on the standby list, as cancellations mean that tickets frequently become available later on.
     
  • Unless advised otherwise by email, the coach will depart from (and return to) Thorpe  Meadows.
     
  • If parking at Thorpe Meadows, PLEASE use the public car park and NOT the hotel car park. There is now a charge (currently £2.50 for all day) for the public car park.
  • As of 1st April 2019 a new emissions tax for coaches travelling into Central London will come into force - an additional £200 per trip. This tax will be included in the price of London theatre tickets.
     
  • Please note that it is very important that you advise Margaret Gaunt of any changes to your email address, or if your membership of Peterborough U3A lapses. Only Peterborough U3A members can be members of this Theatre Group.

More information: Fiddler on the Roof transferred to the West End's Playhouse Theatre following its sell-out revival at the Menier Chocolate Factory, with director Trevor Nunn giving this classic musical a new lease of life. The audience are drawn into the intimate life of this community by making them an intricate part of the production. The stalls have been entirely reconfigured, with a thrust stage extending into the auditorium with an outline silhouette of the village.

 

Set in Russia at the turn of the 1905 Revolution, Fiddler on the Roof centres around Tevye, a Jewish man who works hard to ensure that he raises his five daughters with traditional Jewish customs. When the village matchmaker brings news that a wealthy butcher wants to marry their eldest child Tzeitel, it’s clear that pairing people together isn’t what Tzeitel wants. Tzeitel wants to marry her childhood friend, Motel the tailor. Eventually, Tzeitel and Motel marry each other, with local Jews joining in with the ceremony, but they are not able to celebrate for too long as Russians wreak havoc in their community.
