Family History

We are a very friendly group made up of experienced family historians and some beginners. Our ethos is to help one another, and we arrange a very varied programme of workshops, speakers and visits. We do not meet in July and August. Please find details of our programme - we are always open to members' suggestions for activities, please do not hesitate to contact us, details below. We look forward to welcoming new members at any of our meetings. Tbis year's subscription is £10 per person.

September 18th            Enrolment. Discussion of the year's programme.

                                      Workshop: how to identify photo dates ny examining dress                                        / uniforms etc.

October 16th               Workshop: ways of recording family research; look at                                               methods / examples from group members. Research tips                                          and tricks from Ancestry.com

November 20th            Talk by Stephen Perry: "Crowland and the Poor".

December18th            Christmas Meeting. Members' facts, memories and stories.

                                    Christmas Buffet  (please bring a plate of food to share).                                     

January 15th             Talk by  John Dewis - "Grandma, what did you do in the                                          Great War".

February  19th          Talk by Stacey Kennedy - "Using Archives with an interest                                     to your family history".

March 19th              Workshop: Influences on your family tree - things and events                                     that had a major effect. Richard Bradley wiill talk about                                            tethering - how to use a smartphone to connect a computer to                                  the internet.

April 16th                Talk by Alan Brooke - "A look at the role of the Workhouses in                                  our society".

May 21st                Social History Outing:   to be decided

June18th                Workshop: achievements and interesting discoveries in your                                    research. Any websites or sources and material you have                                        found useful.

 

Our meetings are held at The John Mansfield Centre, Western Avenue, Dogsthorpe, PE1 4HX - there is a bus service from the Peterborough bus station.
