PU3A QUIZ NIGHT MAY 2017

The first quiz of 2017 to be held by Peterborough U3A happened on the evening of 13th May 2017. Much work had been put in by Brenda Fearon to concoct 100 questions to bemuse, befuddle and bamboozle the quizers present.

The venue was set at St Andrews Hall in Netherton, and the tables and all the paraphernalia required for a successful evening was set out. Slowly a quiz night is becoming more and more techie with screens and slide shows associated with sound files and all manner of IT bits and bobs.

For this event there were 10 teams with a total of almost 70 contestants making up each group of 6 – 8 players. Each table supplied their own refreshments for the whole event, but teas and coffees along with some lovely homemade cakes (kindly made by Brenda’s daughter) were supplied for the interval.

Subjects covered were Entertainment, Science and Nature, Where in the World, Trivia, Music, Sport, Literature, Quotations and a Picture Quiz. Questions included such high-brow items as Operatic Arias down to the more simple TV Soaps and British Garden Birds – there was something for everyone in among the varied questions.

This year’s winning team were Amnesiacs who accumulated an impressive score of 84 from a possible 100 points. Their prize was a bottle of wine for each team member. There was a similar prize for the second placed team, The Batty Players, as well.

To make life worthwhile for the last placed team (called Darting Around but will remain nameless) there was a tube of Rolo sweets for each team member.

We ran a raffle and managed to make £115 which has been donated to East Anglian Air Ambulance

As the Quiz Nights are proving more and more popular there is another night in the planning for a date, still to be decided, in November this year – so keep your eyes open on either the web site or in the News Letter for more details. If you can raise a team then let Brenda Fearon know once the event is advertised, but if you cant generate the numbers  for a full team then contact her anyway as she will slot in odd ones and twos into existing teams that fall short of the full 8 players or find players to make your team up to at least 6 people.
