Group Leader Admin of Web Pages – Changes to Editor Suite

The full document on editing your web page can be found here  - the document below gives an outline of the changes

Whilst carrying out the first tranche of Training Sessions for Group Leaders on how to administer their Group Page on the PU3A website, we identified a number of items that required changes to be made to the website.

The following will walk Group Leaders through how the changes affect their access level when making changes to their section of the web.

1. It was discovered that GLs had the ability to completely delete their Activity pages from the site. This was a potential problem if someone mistakenly hit the delete button as once actioned the delete could not be rescinded. We have therefore removed that button from the site, and it is now only possible for the PU3A Web Administrator and other committee members with Super Admin rights to remove a group completely.

2. It was possible for Group Leaders, whilst administering their Activity page, to inadvertently change the Group Leader of their page, and thereby lose access to their own page. We have now removed the list of all Group Leaders from the Activity page so removing that avenue for a mistake to happen.

3. When Creating a Photo Gallery, it was possible for a Group Leader to assign the gallery to any group – this meant that a Group Leader could mis-assign the gallery to a group that he/she was not the leader off, thereby losing access and control of that gallery. We have now changed the set up so that only groups for which that GL is responsible are shown when assigning the gallery. This reduces the likelihood that a gallery will be assigned to a wrong group.

4. It was found that those using an Apple device (mainly the iPad) did not display the text editor correctly. To overcome this our developers have now changed the editor used so that both Apple Users and Windows Users have equal access to the editing suite.
The change may entail users clearing there cache on their device before the text editor shows in its correct form. If the editor has icons missing or mis-named then go into your settings and clear the cache of the device – then restart the device. This should enable correct use of the system. The developers have informed us that it may be necessary to perform this action 2 or 3 times before the editor displays in its correct form.
Details of changes to the text editor buttons are shown below this initial list, and for those GLs who are still to attend the GL training on web admin will be shown the new editor at the session.

5. Members with certain profiles to enable them to edit pages (in some circumstances) had access to the Membership Database – this access has now been removed.

Changes to the Text Editor

To enable the users with Apple devices to use the web admin facility the Text Editor has been changed to a more recent version. This does mean the appearance of the editor and its associated button has changed a little. The grid below shows the old icon and new icon for each of the common buttons used. Please refer to this if you encounter a problem accessing a feature of the text editor
