PHOTOGRAPHY FOR PLEASURE

PHOTOGRAPHY FOR PLEASURE

Check  out  the  bottom  of our page for lots of photography opportunities!  smiley

This friendly group started as the first Peterborough U3A photography group in Jen Day's front room, with just a handful of members, but its popularity soon resulted in her seeking out a larger room, to accomodate increasing interest.  Jen has now left the group but her legacy of a popular and friendly group who are interested in, and often passionate about, their photography continues on.

Photographic Equipment - In the technological world in which we now live, it’s hardly surprising that we use a wide variety of equipment, since today, taking photographs has been made so much easier for us all!   Some of our members use SLR cameras whilst others prefer to use a compact camera or maybe even an ipad or iphone!

Skills and Experience - As with the wide range of equipment we use, our members have varied experience and skills.  But, the one thing we all have in common, is our love of photography.  We enjoy capturing images and sharing them with others. Consequently, we have a monthly themed competition, giving us an opportunity to have a discussion with each other about our own photographs.

Other meetings - Generally, for the second meeting in each month we have speakers; these may be outside speakers or occasionally one of our group will give us a talk or lead a workshop.  When there is a fifth Thursday in a month, we often meet ‘on location’, followed by lunch together.  Having lunch together is something we do rather enjoy and we generally have a Christmas lunch out after one of our December meetings.

Our Philosophy  - This group is aimed at catering for anyone who enjoys photography, from the absolute beginner to the skilled enthusiast, in the hope that they will all ‘have fun’ at our meetings and in some small way, improve their photographic skills.  Let’s face it, everyone was a beginner once and our friendly group members are always willing to help and advise others, so that we can all produce photographs of which we can be proud.

Last meeting:  We had a panel competition where we had to try to take two photographs from the same position but in different seasons.  Graham produced two identical photographs taken in different seasons showing part of a gate.  Excellent!

Brian (above) and David gave us really interesting and informative talks on photography earlier this year.

Next meeting is 21 September when we will be trying out our new light box to look at, and talk about, the photographs from our Exhibition at Hampton.

We meet regularly on the first and third Thursday of each month from 9.30 am to 12 noon in the Community Centre, Copeland, Bretton, Peterborough.  Our current programme is shown below:
